Boulder Multisport: August 2006

First, I want to send a shout out to the 5430 Series race organizers Barry and Jodee Siff. Barry and Jodee have done a phenomenal job in putting on these races. If you competed in any of the 5430 series, I encourage you to send them an email to let them know how great the races were. While my days as an athlete in this sport are numbered, I plan to volunteer at as many of these races as possible next year. I really do love the sport and the people involved. Class acts from top to bottom.

We are really fortunate to live in a city that promotes health the way Boulder does, and get behind events like these. Also, the shear number of professional athletes here is amazing. Tuesday, Carey found herself running and talking with Amanda Lovato then Sunday while I am out suffering like a dog, she’s chatting it up with the wife of another athlete. After some initial chit chat about the kids, the conversation goes like this…

Woman – “When do you expect your husband to finish?”

Carey – “Hopefully before the sun goes down. How about your husband?”

Woman – “He won it.”

Carey – “Oh, you’re Craig Alexander’s wife?”

Thanks honey. You know you could have mentioned something about my double hip replacement surgery or my broken left tibia or my frost bitten toes from climbing Mt. Everest the week before? Instead all I get is a “hopefully he finishes before the course closes.” I somehow doubt that Craig would be impressed with that finish.

Anyhow without further adieu, the part of the post that everyone has been waiting for. The 5430 Kid’s Triathlon. It was a treat to watch close to 300 kids in this magical event. This was by far one of the best times I had at a triathlon.
